In April, the UK took steps forward on the second round of its programme to spur renewable hydrogen production, but excitement was tempered by the government tacitly trimming the ambition level of the scheme. And while London has finally started signing contracts-for-difference (CfDs) with the winners from the first round held in 2023, this has hardly triggered the wave of final investment decisions (FIDs) that some expected. Developers remain keen on the HAR competitions, but some question if the UK is pulling the right policy levers to successfully grow its renewable hydrogen industry.
